This is a piece I truly love. There’s a heavy, shadowed mood that clings to it, a sense that something unspoken lingers just beneath the surface. The figure, a woman with her back turned, suggests secrecy. She faces away, as though concealing something, yet holds a mirror that reflects inward, as if quietly confronting her own truth. The entire image carries the weight of a moment just before revelation, unsettling, charged, and intentionally unclear. There’s a quiet sensuality in her bare shoulders, the soft drape of fabric, and the loose braid in her hair. It’s all subtle, messy yet refined, elegant yet untamed. The way her hair falls, like the shadows in the background, contributes to the air of quiet mystery. This figure exists in a space that feels almost suspended, like she’s caught in a moment of reflection, or warning.

Charcoal was the perfect medium for this. It’s not what I usually reach for. It’s messy, moody, and hard to control, but in that chaos, I found freedom. The darkness of the medium echoed the emotional tone I was after. I didn’t need precision; I desired atmosphere. Even the frame became a meaningful element. I chose a floating frame with clear space between the work and its edge, to emphasize isolation and the state of being one singularity. In astrophysics, a singularity is something undefined, an answerless point. That’s how I feel about Ominous: it resists explanation.
