This piece depicting Marilyn Kreviazuk was developed from an original picture taken in Ear Falls in 1980. This was before Marilyn moved with her husband, Brian, and two sons, Mike and Dave, to Red Lake in 1983 to open a new lumber yard, Northwest Building Centre, which evolved to be Northwest Timber Mart. One afternoon, Mike brought my Uncle Vito home from grade school, and it was then that he was first introduced to Marilyn. Due to circumstances, my uncle and Brian became close friends and good fishing buddies. As time went on, their friendship deepened beyond fishing trips and family visits with Marilyn, eventually leading to new opportunities to work together. In 2002, My Uncle Vito wanted to start his own welding business, and he needed a paper person. Since Marilyn had extensive knowledge in financial management and they recently sold their lumber yard, Vito asked Marilyn to be his bookkeeper and teach him the ins and outs of running his own business. She looked after that business like it was her own, always watching out for Vito’s spontaneous decisions. After my Uncle Vito passed away, I had the pleasure of meeting Marilyn. My mother became close with her and Brian. She loved travelling, golfing and her friends in the Red Lake community. We would make pierogis together and have dinner occasionally. I will always cherish the conversations and time we spent together. Thank you, Marilyn.
