This painting was born from the idea of a different kind of heartbreak, one that lingers even after the love has gone. She reaches into the hollow cage of the man she once loved, not a corpse, but a heart gone cold, and clutches what remains: a still-glowing heart that only beats because she wills it to. Though he has moved on, discarded their love like dust, she stays, clinging to the memory, to the pulse she refuses to let die. That glow, that red flicker, is not his love, it is hers, burning so fiercely it gives life to something already dead. Her skin has gone grey, stretched over brittle bones, her body thinned by devotion. She has fed the flame too long, until it consumed her. Her hair, once vibrant, has turned silver speaking to the time and life she's surrendered to this unreciprocated love. Around her, the world withers from neglect. Dried flowers mirror her decay echoing the loss of beauty that once surrounded their love. She is emotionally depleted. All that remains is a woman sick with longing, caught in the delusion that love, true love, can survive when only one heart still remembers.
