Let me start by saying I know “le peppure” isn’t the correct French word for pepper... but I wish it were! The title is playful, intentionally wrong, and somehow just felt right for this piece. This work was meant to be simple, even stark. A single pepper stands alone in a soft grey space, yet it holds its own with strength, emphasized through bold black and white contrast. There’s something about a solitary object in an empty field that speaks quietly but confidently, no noise, just presence. At first, I challenged myself to use a thick, bristly brush, determined to work with strong, visible strokes and a looser hand. But, inevitably, I gave in to what I love most; my tiny, delicate brushes. This allowed the details to come through. It was a reminder that sometimes, it’s okay to let your style lead you, even if it pulls you away from the original plan.
