S T A T E M E N T :
This untraditional diptych was created to explore the contrast and interconnectedness between warmth and cold, both in nature and in mood. Through soft, organic edges and gentle form, fruits, flowers, and vases, I aimed to evoke the sensory memory of seasons: the golden stillness of late summer and the quiet, bundled hush of winter. The duality in these pieces is subtle yet intentional. The warm panel recalls long sun-drenched days, where light lingers and blossoms open wide in comfort. In contrast, the cool side reflects the introspective chill of winter, where forms gather inwards, conserving their energy, much like how we bundle ourselves against the cold.
The flowers are purposefully different in each piece not only because the lilies wouldn't quite fit the composition, but because their variation speaks to the way nature, like people, responds to temperature. When warm, petals and people tend to open, expand, and unfurl; when cold, they gather, tighten, and protect. I wanted the viewer to feel that contrast not as conflict, but as complement. One cannot truly be appreciated without the other. Together, Late Summer Stillness and Bundled Up celebrate seasonal rhythm and the quiet beauty found on either side of the temperature scale.
