This piece was created back in Grade 10, when our assignment was to paint fruit, plain, predictable, painfully boring fruit. I’ve never had patience for still-life apples and oranges, so instead of being the obedient, rule-following student they expected, I let myself have a little more fun. I painted piña colada drinks instead, set against a vibrant pineapple background. If I had to paint fruit, I was at least going to make it feel like a vacation rather than a grocery store.
