I was drawn to the look and feel of Ethereal Essence, and wanted to build on that mood by emphasizing brightness and brilliance, in contrast to the deeper shadows I explored in earlier paintings. I haven’t yet defined the symbolism behind this piece; instead, I let the materials lead. The luminous clouds and gold leaf shimmer like a dream suspended in the sky. Much of the visual playfulness and detail was inspired by the I SPY books I loved growing up, inviting the viewer to slow down, search, and find something new each time they look.
