This graceful still life wasn’t created to carry heavy meaning, but rather to explore balance, contrast, and motion in a quiet, personal way. My intention was to capture the colors of the floral model as truthfully as possible, while contrasting them against a cool-toned background. The soft oranges and whites of the flowers bring warmth and invitation, glowing gently against the colder backdrop.
Of to the side of the painting are a pair of roughly worn skates, an object which is close to me. I've skated for many years, and there’s always been something about gliding across the ice that feels like dancing. I imagined my brush dancing in the same way across the canvas, echoing that sense of smooth, expressive movement as I painted each detail. The title Floral Glide reflects that connection. The flowers seem to float effortlessly across the canvas, much like a skater in motion. The cool, striped background reinforces that rhythm, suggesting music, skating, and the quiet patterns we find in nature. Though simple in subject, this piece is meant to evoke a sense of peace and flowing motion, an ode to grace in stillness.
